Amazon EC2 provides a wide selection of instance types optimized to fit different use cases. Instance types comprise varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking capacity and give you the flexibility to choose the appropriate mix of resources for your applications. Each instance type includes one or more instance sizes, allowing you to scale your resources to the requirements of your target workload.
Each vCPU is a hyperthread of an Intel Xeon core except for T2 and m3.medium.
*M3 instances may also launch on an Intel Xeon E5-2670 (Sandy Bridge) processor running at 2.6 GHz.
** These M4 instances may launch on an Intel Xeon E5-2686 v4 (Broadwell) processor.
† AVX, AVX2, and Enhanced Networking are only available on instances launched with HVM AMIs.
